Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

He loved the Spring: brighter mornings, lighter evenings, new life, that distinct scent of the season. Quicksilver had always fancied the idea of a Springtime wedding, yet now the very thought of it was tainted.

Soon, he would be a husband. Sometime following that, a father. Everything he'd ever dreamed of, all shared with the dove he'd so longed to share his life with, yet all the joy he expected to accompany it had been drained from him. Only a hollowness remained, an ache over how they'd butted heads and disagreed.

Despite his decision, he wondered if he could trust her again - the way he previously did.

The druid distracted busied himself along Vanderfell's lower slopes, nosing among greenery for any sign of the herbs he required for the morrow's dosage for his patients. His supplies had almost been drained and he was loathe to pluck valuable plants from his garden before they could mature, so actively sought the more local flora to aid in their recovery.

She, too, wandered Vanderfell's lower reaches. Rea followed along one of her father's patrol routes, mimicking his actions - trailing the length of her body along tree bark and boulders, pausing to pee here and there. She knew how important it was to mark territory that belonged to them, how it was to serve as a deterrent to outsiders who might think to take advantage.

Honestly, being a guardian was a little repetitive and boring. So when she spotted a familiar figure picking his way along the outskirts of their summit, she loped enthusiastically to join him. “Silverrrr,” the girl chirped, forcing herself into the sterling medic's space by pressing her lithe frame to his flank, “whatcha doing?”

^^

she was productive. She was. nimueh had seen a bird rummaging for nest material and in true nimueh fashion, she had sought to help. It was important to maintain the balance. So the young she-wolf had rummaged around herself for stray fur and leaves to present at the bottom of its tree. She had done that successfully, looking every bit as disheveled she had when @Ira  had sought her out all previous times.

Was there anyone of Vanderfell who hadn't seen her with dirt, leaves and twigs in her fur? Likely not but it was from good work. Nimueh loped across the terrain with a good feeling buzzing through her spine. ^^

Pausing at some young greenery, the druid paused to examine. He pressed his nose to test the scent of leaves, daring to nip a small hole in some to taste their bitter tang so that he might better identify them before they could flower. Parsley, he mused, recognising the flavour at once, though the plant seemed oddly... curled? He lifted his muzzle and glanced around, making a mental note to check back on it at a later date to see how it grew.

A voice called his name just as he moved to carry on his way, and he pointed his snout in the direction of the source. Rea's approach was a welcome one and he felt his mood lift at the sight if the young Vanderfell heir; “hey, you!” Quicksilver reached to nip fondly at her ears as she leaned in against him, “just looking for some new plants. Would you like to come along?”

But they were not alone. Nimueh's arrival on the scene drew his attention away from young Rea, and he regarded the aspiring healer with a polite smile.

He always welcomed her with warmth, and Rea leaned in heavily against his legs. She felt him tug softly at her ears and, always eager to put her own fangs to use, the mottled youngster shifted to mouth playfully at the medic's pale throat.

Talk of business was swift to follow, and while his search for plants was of zero interest to her, she had a better idea. “How about,” Rea started, stepping away to shove her nose among the leaves that Quicksilver had been sniffing at, “you look for your plants, and I act as your guard?”

Like an expedition! Made all the more fun by the arrivalof another. Rea beamed at Nimueh, noting with interest how twigs and dirt clung to her furs, and she turned to better examine her more closely. “Watcha been rolling in?”

Nimueh, it seemed, was not prepared to stop and chat. She carried on, rugged and unkempt, and Quicksilver followed her movements with pale eyes before he looked curiously toward young Rea. He smiled for her, rolling a slim shoulder, then pressed on to continue his search for fresh herbs. “Come on then,” he encouraged, somewhat hesitantly, for he understood Ira's firm refusal of Rea's dream to pursue a warrior lifestyle. The druid didn't foresee anything dangerous coming from his little foraging trip, however, so supposed it wouldn't do any harm to let the girl believe she was protecting him.

“I need oregano,” he said out loud, knowing that Rea would likely be uninterested as she couldn't sniff them out in the way he could, “and maybe some thyme. Let me know if you spot any.”

Rea watched the wild-looking wolfess carry on, then glanced curiously toward Vanderfell's silver medic. She caught his smile and the dismissive roll of his shoulder and grinned; Nimueh was definitely an odd character at times. The girl turned her attention solely on Quicksilver once more as he invited her along, padding willingly along at his flank as he nosed among plants and explained what it was he was looking for.

“Okay,” she chirped, seaglass eyes searching the foliage for herbs she had no idea about. About a dozen times she would find something just slightly different and call out: “is it this one?” Rarely would she find something of use, but the druid would try his best to explain what it was she'd located - despite her likely prolonging his search.
