Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Uriel was scared.

The storms embraced the sky itself and brought a change ; what the tundra was now no longer soley of ice and frost, and a great forest of warmth stood in the mixed. It removed mountains, it changed landscapes and made what she thought, was the disappearing of wolves. Returning on such an adventure, her eyes were embraced by the stars itself moving and shifting — roaring in a terror that brought a large fear and chaos within her very soul, and she ran home.. Ran as fast as she could to shade herself in familarity as it seemed like the heavens themselves were roaring and sharing lights to the world below.

She hide beneath a great oak tree, as above a large feline-like being moved the stars itself, the lights shifted and formed to a being that was physical, yet not at the same time. It seemed like when it roared, the sky itself shook and lightning blazed through, she could see the flashes of light flame to the ground itself, and so close to the Golden Glade.

The stars had names, but this constellation was not one she was familiar with ; not one she knew, like itself formed to something, it made something and it brought terror. Uriel hide, into the bushes near the grand oak tree, but grays eyes glued to the sky to the moving stars that formed something that only seemed, like a feline.

 The land roiled with impossibility.

Just as soon as Philippa had begun to grasp her new life, she was met with more madness. The storm broke. In its wake, she could see a creature in the sky. It lounged with a pelt of starlight, acting as if it had always been there, its visibility being the only change.

She wanted to get back to Greenwood, to @Kore. Though the woman was younger, Philippa looked to her as a guide, a mentor with a lilting voice and the warmest heart.

Stepping towards a large oak tree, her ear swiveled when she heard the snap of a spindle-twig. She smelled another. “Hello?”

Philippa looked up at the moving constellation. It stared through her. “Is anyone there?”

Her paws covered her eyes to the beasts above — it felt like they may descend to the earth within a chaos, despite a laziness taking hold of them and not even attempting. The way they moved and twisted the skies brought a fear itself ; magic within the world that was clouding her judgement in the fear that reality itself was tearing away from all that she knew. A realist, she saw what she saw and believed in it, and so much skepticism was appearing as more she saw, more felt simply unreal itself. How she tried to take it all with a stroll — yet when the constellations tore from their still coil, it felt like a break pointing. She couldn't understand, how it could be.

She moved her left paw from her gray eyes and looked around from her hidden spot within the branch, as Uriel could hear a voice within the distance, yet they held a calmness against her own panic. Where others not as fearful as she was? How were others calm about this?

"H-Hello?" she stuttered, as her body recoiled into the opening of the oak tree, ears flattened and cowering within.

The outline was faint and silvered in the dim, but she could see the stranger. Philippa inched closer, smelling the acrid tang of fear.

“Hello?” She parroted, fear pricking at the end of every limb. “It's alright...I won't hurt you and...I don't think the sky will either.” Though she had no way of guaranteeing such a thing.

"Do you.. think so?" It scared her, for the fear of unknown is what brought that true terror. It didn't look like the view above would cause harm, as the stars twirled and shined down upon the two they made no look to them, or motion to venture downwards. Just a beauty of a painting within the sky, dazzling and roaring, puzzling all that was below. Creatures shifting galaxies and suns, just to show what they could do above.

She moved slightly out as the other tried to reassure her, and looked above at the sky with flattened ears of uncertainty.

“Well, I'm not sure, but it hasn't yet, right?” She was every bit as lost as the trembling she-wolf before her, but below Philippa's quaking apprehension there was a defiant kind of optimism.

“At least we're not alone?” She offered, trying to smile. “My name's Philippa. What's yours?”

Uriel still hovered close to the ground, like she was hugging it. An assurance it would go as she slowly did she crawl out from her hiding place — as once more the sky boomed wildly, the feline roared but not at them. Like a yawn of boredness, and it simply lazed around in the sky above. But so large that she had to move her eyes just to see all that it was.. Then looked at the other.

"I am.. Uriel."
