@Vengeance and Edith traveled through the night and into the early morning. She had never gone this far before, and if she wasn’t as tired and scared as she was, she would have taken the time to appreciate and observe her surroundings. Instead, her mind wandered as she thought about everything that she had just left behind. Edith mainly thought about @Calhoun and @Warwick—her partners in crime. Had they realized that she had left? What were they thinking? It was strange to be without him, but she knew that she’d return soon to persuade them to come with her. Edith knew it wouldn’t be hard to convince them, as they had discussed leaving Elkshire’s claim on more than one occasion.
She only wished that they were here with her right now, seeing the world for the first time.
Edith was exhausted by the time that they had arrived at the reach. She had lost her momentum in the last leg of the journey, and strayed a few steps behind her father. The forest had loomed in the distance for a while, still and eerie as it watched them approach. Edith noticed the way the forest stood, with fog blanketing their roots. She couldn’t explain it, but there was something foreboding about it, and she couldn’t shake the feeling.
Foregoing her intuition for now, Edith quickened her stride, pushing herself for the last mile of their excursion. She would meet her father’s pace, attempting prove to him that she was ready for whatever training she was about to begin.
Although she hardly knew him, Edith felt an overwhelming urge to show him why she had been hand-picked by the High Elk. She hadn’t thought much about Him since he had not shown up when she had needed him most. That was an existential crisis for another day.
