Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

For once, it seemed that the brim was not full of fog. Rather it sunny out, cloudless at most. It almost voided the beach of it's usual grim atmosphere. The sands were relatively pail, a bit of rocks between as debris clung to it's tides. Though voided of any crustaceans at the moment, and wondered what truly roamed these beaches when no one was looking. There was definitely no signs of what monster lurks within the fog..

Vendrussel took the moment to hunt upon it's shores. Many smaller fish liked to cling to the tides when they rested upon the shore, before the waves took them back to the ocean. She couldn't imagine finding anything large upon this beach, unlike her dives upon the isle itself. But she could hear stomach rumble for a quick snack ; and such easy prey to present itself is before her.

Carefully did she stand into the waves, right as they descended back into the ocean. They were light, barely a knocking before her legs as they came in and out in a tranquility of peace. Her paws feeling the damp sand, digging into and the slight disruptions of sand crabs making their way around. She tried to eat those at one point, as a child Vendrussel vaguely remembered — had a crunch that wasn't good, nor' even filled up ones stomach.

She could see the tides pulling a few fish in and out, and was waiting for one that was bigger then just a paw-size, at least.. With careful patience, and calmness of breathing — did the dragon leader strike, her head slamming to the waves and catching a rather medium-sized fish, flailing through her maw as the rest of it's pod was taken back to the ocean itself, and scattering away from the beach.

She bit down hard, a brief killing before bringing it back to shore.

To note; Izumi still can't fully see vendrussel because of the fog/mist, only a silouette.

The mountains had called her name once again, yet the source of her interests was not of the clouds -- it was a terrestrial source. More accurately: aquatic.
Salty clouds and blooming sands, the beach had been a place the crane bird had not visited in quite some time.
Briefly, within each step, Izu's eyes would trail to a lifted paw to watch clumps of sand fall from the bottom of her pads. The feeling of this grainy, moist terrain felt so alien to the frosted grounds she'd been used to walking on, yet so familiar. It made her realize just how much she missed traveling so freely like this, and wondered idly what it would've been like to do so all over again. Taking in the serenity of her own company, and feasting her eyes upon the undiscovered.
Something felt much more eerie about these shores than the traditional blue waves and peach sky she came across in the past, and the breeze that blew threw her fur gave the woman a sharp chill. In the distance, out the corner of her squinted eyes she could've sworn she spotted movement -- especially noise. Though it was truly had to tell when she could hardly even see.
Until the movement continued, and a figure emerged from the fog.
  Caution stiffened her ink-dipped limbs, yet curiosity drew her muzzle forward and her nose to twitch. Not a step was made toward the mystery figure yet her voice couldn't help but reach;
"You smell of the sea, stranger--" the bird noted, the tip of her tail twitching ever so slightly, before falling stiff again.
"--do you lay claim to it as well?"

A paw upon her prize, as she rose a brow and looked at the other. Smelled of the tundra, smelled of a pack. A wolf she didn't know nor' one she recognized, but at the very least they were not of Northfall land, "If I do, you are within that packs hunting ground." A chill through her actions but not a yet movement to get up from her position. She sat upon the beach, wet of seasalt and a few fish scattered about..

But she wasn't so heartless to chase another off, especially not someone so curious.
