Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Remus

She saw it — a fox. Into the crown did it roam, red against the snow and holding a small bird of prey, before trying to flee before. She saw the glimpsing figure in the distance and came like a terror, prowling through the forest to find it once more. It was hunting within Elkshire, and with winter here, keeping their prey was the upmost importance.. Even then without it, it wasn't right to continue letting such a mongrel think it's okay to hunt within a wolves territory.

Nose to the ground, did the Queen follow it's path. It was still fresh, even the blood of the prey was found and the spot that was hunted, as she noted the struggle within the snow, and the leap of faith the fox preformed. A snarl to her face, finding it unacceptable that a fox hunted within Elkshire, and went onwards like nothing cared. All were hungry, and yet was foolish, to try and claim to them.

Her findings led to the outskirts, to the range where.. The tracks stopped. The stalked through and yet when into the field Celnes raised her head and saw nothing, and looked in a calmness, but her heart was flustered ; where did it go?

It was wise to keep wits about oneself while on guard. One word if advice was to think of guarding more like hunting, it was good for the mind to take the initiative rather than letting things come as they may.

When Remus heard the commotion of chase coming from within the borders of the shire, his interest was captured. It seemed like it was heading his way.

Standing at the ready a fox came bursting through the brush, obviously running from someone else. He could smell the queen nearby, so it was implied to what shall be done.

Sidestepping, Remus' maw was well placed to latch onto the small intruder mid run. The fox emitted a high pitch screech as it was lifted from the ground, Remus fangs puncturing into the back of its neck. Tumbling to the floor the fox's I'll gotten prise sat lifeless. In one fluid motion, the guard swung the vulpine around slamming it into the floor. Hostage and bleeding.

The queen wasn't far behind, he would await her orders.

She had followed the fellow through the crown, nose to the ground while bustling through. As a wolf, above all their nose was part of their way to live — she pitied, to those who would not. Celnes could smell those who were behind, the familiar sweetness coming from those who lived in Elkshire and the occasional elk that toyed around.. And yet, the smell of the fox had been momentarily lost, something she had trouble — but the shriek and the smell of blood was rampant, if she couldn't find a track, there was now one.

Following through the stalking of the plains did the Queen come to the gladiator, where the fox laid beneath injured and defeated. A cold look to the vulpine, perhaps a pity — for surely it knew the meaning of being caught, was meant to be a death sentence. Like all, they were vengeful. She wouldn't let the chance for it to come back with others.

There was a nod from her, giving the ok for it's head.

His order was apparent.  With no hesitation Remus adjusted his grip twisting his head suddenly.  A small sheik was cut short as the fox's life was taken instantly with a sick crack of spinal tissue.  Letting the kill loose, it fell to the floor rigid in its death throws, what was left of its nerves firing at random.

He didn't bother looking, he had seen it many times before.  It neither gave him pleasure or displeasure, the guard didn't even bother to lick the blood from his upper lip.

Homing in on the queen, his gaze found her. Yet, his presence was distant as if looking through her.

"Perhaps a pelt for the healers den," she hummed slightly in a thought. Though would @Cynefrid appreciate the warmth of the death upon her door? Gradually as the years went by, and becoming away from the homeland and a ruler itself, it was wise not to waste any resources.. Even those that lose their lives. Though obviously so, she would never attempt the same on a coyote or wolves body, and giving a delicate burial to them — to return to the High Elk, and rebirth as a Deorwine. So the saying would go, but in actual reality she would tell them to toss them out the border, or do as they please. Yet, it was nicer to think she did the former.

Idle talk, for the man stood there bathed in blood and did not leave. She wondered what he wanted, but nonetheless simply spoke her mind without true thought to it. She gave up, some time ago, trying to read this man — there was just some wolves in the world that Celnes would not be able to, and would need to cease her mind upon their matters, "with winter around, perhaps as well, there are more of them nearby."

Looking though her he listened intently for any further orders. Mostly it seemed that the queen was now giving him more, though he could see the lightheartedness of the new commands. Perhaps she was trying to open him up for small talk. "I will deliver this to Cynfrid, and eliminate any others I come across." , he responded, retuning the conversation to a place of professionalism.

Still looking though her, he stood emotionless. She hadn't really bothered to learn much about him, and he figured he already knew all he needed to about her.

"Is there anything else, I can do? Your highness."

Still, he would not call her his queen.

"Very well." She nodded with approval. It was true though there was not much she knew about him, yet it could be say likewise. Most only knew of her ways due to the Deorwine religion, and yet.. The past seemed to remain in an oblivious slumber — something Celnes should be thankful for, for the death that carried upon her back continued to haunt her through her kin.

What shadows haunt him, she wondered.

"That will be all." Any light conversation was thrown under and she didn't proceed to continue that. He was a stone-wall, and she would not push just to throw her dignity away to gain a more closer momentum. With so — the Queen turned away to leave.

He didn't have to say anymore, uninterested in her past, or her in general. He was an opinionated man.

What good would learning more do.  When looking at a tree one could tell that it had rotten roots by seeing its putrid fruit.  Though his face would never tell, only returning a blank look of stone.  At least she didn't try to butter him up with cheap words, he could give her that.

Silently -  Remus retrieved the corpse, following the order to deliver it to @Cynefrid
