Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Prowling through the dens shadows was she gradually using her other siblings as bodies of cover. She had an aim on this day, a wonder of bully while preying upon her other siblings in a skulking wonder. An eye toward her brother, @Raiden , whom had gained revenge upon her on a previous day when she sought to play — and Ara did not forget the rebuttal.

She was motioning around the den in a careful walk, but as there was no true cover.. She decided to pounce!

Every day was something new and the boy wanted to see more. Recently they had been going outside more and more, but still he was limited in his reach. Even worse, he was often the target of his sister's eye. It wouldn't matter what he was doing, she always found him and barreled in like some brute. Unfortunately for the boy, today was no different as the shadow tore at him. Her body collided with his and instinctively, a baby snarl curled his lips as they tumbled. She may have instigated the fight, but he was rather tired of her constant power shove, so with child-sized ivories, he turned to snap at her neck.

Raiden was perhaps her favorite playmate to mess around with. Nysa fought back far too much, and though Ara had enjoyed the moments between the two, she couldn't help but relish at the times her brother would give up in the hope she would leave — then there was the times he truly bite back like the current time, and it gave her a rush of desire to conquer. A hierarchy of pups that desired Ara to be ontop, though it was mostly herself urging onward to show all, especially the eagle itself, she was superior.

A wild grin was given from Ara as she happily clashed her own fangs against his, bites almost urging him to continue on and come at her — fight her, be the warriors their mother desired them to be! She pushed forward, as Ara snapped and tackled.

If there was anything Raiden wasn't, it was a pushover. Just because he avoided the torment of his sister did not mean he would bow to her. Ever. Each attack only raised his spite for the girl, siblings or not, and though there were days he would seek their mother's interference just to get her to back off, he knew she would not be around always to keep her at bay, nor was she leashed so easily. It was frustrating to be forced to fight when he longed for anything but, but that was the world he supposed. Even his mother had agreed, there would always be those who sought to pull him down.

And so fight he must. Ara would face him with a grin akin to some creep or the insane, but he would not share her love for the moment. It would be plainly painted into his features how much he despised her, his lips curled back along side flattened ears. She thought she was strong for picking on the smallest of them, but it only made her a coward. Who was to say he would always be the smallest as well? As their puppy fangs clashed he bit wildly, no target specific in mind other than what was right in front of him. Her face. Though really he would settle for anything he could reach and smack against.

It was fortunate for both sides that their tiny teeth were still far too frail and soft to do any true damage. Each bite was akin to a pinch, annoying and painful, though no blood was truly drawn. This precaution nature had instilled only made the boy fume more though. Maybe if he had been able to give her a cut she would finally leave him alone and seek another to torment. It was clear all she wanted was blood, and one day she would surely get it though he wondered if it would come as she hoped or if karma would strike instead.

She snarled in the small puppy-tongue as felt the teeth clash against her own and feeling that of his brushing against her cheek. She could feel the skin irritate as he would grip around at times, and she in retaliation would do back. Not knowing any moves that a warrior could do, the best that that could be done was Ara pushing forward with fangs constantly snapping. Sometimes she could lift a paw to prod him and push, but usually would just catch in the air and bark in a protest, almost demanding to come closer to body him.

But the battle made her want more. She enjoyed her brother who finally retaliated back, and it brought a childish grin to the small troublemaker. She wanted him to come up, to challenge the throne that she claimed for herself, and with no one stopping.. It was growing bored to her liking that she barked and barked, and urging to come forth. Though for a second, did her teeth claim and eyes go shut — as Ara tried to headbutt him.

Try as she might, he only fought for self-preservation. He had no interest in battles unless it was in the name of defense, of those he loved. She could challenge him all she wanted but he would never take her imaginary throne. He wasn't one to settle to claim he just wanted to see the world and do what he wanted where he wanted. Why bound yourself in place?

For that reason, he never charged her head-on. If there was ever a gap or a time where she leaned away, he too would lean away or step away in hopes that she would finally just stop or go away. Any time she drew near her body would be met with another snap of small jaws, though eventually she leans back and tucked down to charge.

Once more having no interest in her brutish antics he simply ducked and rolled to the side letting her charge forward. If he was lucky maybe she would hit her head and cry before giving up, though in case he was wrong, Raiden scrambled to his paws and stood defensively waiting to see if she turned back at him. Stop it already!

Hydra watched. It was clear Raiden did not desire to fight, nor did he posture to insight further retaliation from Ara. Hydra drawled, “enough. You have won, Ara. You must know when the fight has ended,” in her low voice. “You must watch to know when this is. He does not challenge you,” she hummed. And so it was evident that Ara was not contested here. It would have been one thing if Raiden had challenged her; but his intent for retreat was clear. Submission enough. The desire to keep fighting was one that Hydra understood, but she fought against the wrong adversary in her continuation of this one. Her energy was better placed elsewhere.

“There is nothing to gain from this fight, only to lose. Come with me,” she drawled, rising then to a stand and stepping away. Hydra had something in mind for the remaining energies to be spent.

Suppose one way or another, she wasn't satisfied by this 'win.' Her mother prompted her to stop, and Ara ceased her fighting toward Raiden.. But he didn't submit, he only screeched in an asking to stop — but not the words she wanted to hear. He held a face without a care, like the world itself would guide his curious soul ; a slight confidence in a cynicism she so saw. And she didn't like that no matter what was done it didn't seem to cave — just once, would she like to hear him say 'you win.'

A slight desire unfolded, sadistic in hearing such words that came through but not today. She huffed lightly, nodding in a reluctance. A look toward him, before following alongside her mother and expecting him to be beside herself, as they would march forward.

The sound of their mother had caught him off guard, jumping enough in his skin to readjust his posture to keep an eye on both "opponents" though he soon realized it was not another who came to tag team him but to put an end to this stupid fighting. Though he was relieved, Raiden wasn't foolish enough to relax just yet. Ara never stopped and even if she did here he knew she would only be back later.

Just once he wished she was scolded more for her bloodlust, but he refused to look so fragile for not sharing the same tolerance. It would only be more fuel for his sister after all. The blues of his eyes shifted coldly to his sister of shadows, watching as she reluctantly retreated to follow their mother. He would not be weak to her, he would not settle, so he watched and he waited, lips still pulled back into a snarl until they were both out of sight. Only then would he relax again and find a way to return back to his childlike exploration.
