Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

It was up to Aslaug to commune with the Old Gods, she knew. Her dreams were insistent, and to ignore them would only cause them great trouble. To her mother and her father Aslaug murmured to, to let them know of her intended pilgrimage. Her dreams had shown her Northfall and its peak, and it was to there she retired to.
The Gods took their time. And They required sacrifice.
Such sacrifice was visible to any eye, keen or otherwise. Aslaug was but a skeleton as she descended the Peaks. The Gods had spoken to her, but they were also cruel. For every step she took, her memory of the answers given seemed to fade. She wondered if the sacrifice They truly wished for, and required of her, was her life.
For her family, she was willing. But the will to live, then and there, was apparently stronger. It kept her going until at last she could smell them, her family, and it was only then that Aslaug stumbled. She stopped, and sat, blinking the snow out of her eyes. And without knowing it, Aslaug collapsed, exhausted... but the rise and the fall of her flanks revealed she was alive even still.

To the far reaches of their homeland she had gone and with such a great mountain, areas where she had made herself invisible to her family. To speak with the Gods, she had, though Ragnar did not know if she sought the Gods of Old or those of Norse. Either, both, maybe.

When she finally descended her father was there for her. Ragnar was learning more of the upper elevations with much help of @Krakarak and so followed a trail which led him to his daughter's scent. He comes in low, sliding to a lay, pressing at her side and nudging her muzzle up under her throat and then chin.

Frail she was, he wonders how long it had been since she had eaten. What all had the Gods given back that would be worth her being in her poor state now. Perhaps nothing and soon the both of them would learn it was not at all her life which would be sacrificed.

Ragnar howled for Sindri, for @Asgeir and for Ynness (whom he did not yet know was gone from them) in an effort to surrounded Aslaug with those who loved her so. Finally (though it hadn't been all that long had it?) Aslaug had returned to them.

Sindri had awaited patiently for her daughter's return from heightest reaches of their home. Up there the lands were frozen always, the winds unbroken by tree or shrub. Bitter and endless cold. Sindri knew it well and it was best fitting to reach the highest point, to be as close to the Gods as one mortal could. She was proud of her daughter.

When Ragnar's call echoed through the rocky terrain, she was quick. Selfishly wanting her children close and happy that finally Aslaug was reuniting with them.

The sight she was met with was little shock to her. Atoning with the Gods, grasping for answers, for prayers answered, was not easy. Her daughter was still young too, not an experienced Seer yet.

Aslaug, søt jente... The little mother coos, taking the other open side of her daughter and touching her gently to her cheek. alt er bra nå.

Weak, and not within her own mind, Aslaug slumbered—and would slumber for several weeks more. She thought she heard the voices of those she loved, and they took shape in the visage of The Allfather and Freyja against her lids. Aslaug breathed still, but then and there, she was not present.

Sindri would rest there within the heart of all Northfall, at ease by the side of her daughter. Under whispered breath she would ask for Ragnar to seek a skin from her den sire and a bite to eat from a nearby cache but at the side Sindri would not leave Aslaug's side.
