Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Though the rain had cleared up, and finally sun shining through the forest.. The area remained damp and wet, multiple times if she were to step her paws would always be coated by mud, or nearly trip in a pond of created rain water. It was difficult to hunt - not impossible, but the Queen found herself venturing toward the doe's range for a better grip on it. The area was but mildly damp, especially as sun shined brightly down to it helping the golden fields grow. Even the elk ventured out, though the flowers that once bloomed were not gone by typhoon, as well as autumn coming.. They didn't grow back. An empty space for all the world to see, large and wide, and enough where just across she could spot that of the Winterheart forest. Yet, close to Elkshire grasp that it gained the Celnes an idea.

"Come now," she ushered her children, a mouth full of feathers. As they grew older and growing into her legs, slowly the eight were gingerly being taught lessons throughout. Some nicer then others, as she faintly remembered their protest with Remus, and the tears given that day. Though he was that of a warrior nature, she as the mother, must teach of sophistication, and the overall ability of that a wolf. Which, included hunting.

A lesson to be given, as she carried a handful of feathers and motioned them toward. No prey to be, for they were far too small.. But they could use that of a fake one. So, the lessons were to begin. She thought perhaps the outdoors, view plain in sight, would be that of a perfect practice. To learn to crouch, to learn to approach with caution.. A Déorwine, was a born hunter after all.

Edith was happy to stretch her legs after all the rain they had gotten. She had kept to the den, left to her own devices, and she had been incredibly bored. Now that they were out and in the open, Edith was in better a better mood. She walked with a pep in her step and looked up to her mother every so often.

The ground was wet, and mud gathered between her paws. She didn't mind it and thought that it felt pleasant between her toes. Edith also noticed that the smells around them had amplified because of the rain, and she smelled the air to see if there was anything new she could sense. It didn't seem like it, so she turned her attention back to walking and eavesdropping on her siblings.

The storm had come and gone, the destruction left in its wake still yet to recover as the forest and open plains struggled to suck up the water left behind. Mud was easy to come across and coated everyone's paws at some point no matter how you tried to avoid it so he had simply learned to suck it up. The squelching underfoot was unpleasant, but it wouldn't show on his face other than a mild frown that already claimed his face half the time.

It would seem that their mother had plans for them as she led them out to the range, her maw stuffed with feathers though he could hardly fashion a guess as to why. Surely they would know with time just like everything before, so he followed silently, eyes idly roaming the open land and the herd as they grazed and made their way through the muddied land.

At long last, the clouds that curtained the sun, and wreaked their anger before all in elkshire, with its darkness, its heaviness and deluge of, what seemed like, endless rainfall.

Today was exciting though, he had bottled-up energy that desperately needed to pop the cork off its cap and be unleashed. The dukes legs were now growing faster than he could keep up with, from the bountiful meats of his new diet feeding his bones and muscles.

And thus, as mother took to escorting them all on another venture, all children in tow followed obligingly, if not slightly in dismay with the mud that now clung to their puppy-fluff pelts, and the wet squelching beneath their paws that came with it. Alas, Warwick, was delighted by the muck.

As they all traipsed non too pleased through the swamp-like remnants of the forest, the prince took every prime opportunity to run around, splashing contently through it all. Mud flew in all directions, and he purposely aimed for the displeased looking littermates. Running past all and making sure he jumped at the right moment beside each and ever one of them, splashing the mud and absolutely caking himself in the process - not much of a make over for him though, with the colours of his fur being of a rich, dark chocolate, much alike of the wet earth being splattered about by him.

His tongue lolled, panting with all his efforts, and mother was no exception to his scampering; ensuring she also got her fair share of her eldest sons rampage of mud splattering.

Mother rarely took them out of the forest, except when she took them on little excursions. Vermillion though really didn't want to, and started to cry when she was being forced deeper into the dark forest. Perhaps it was her mothers fault though for doing in the pitch of darkness rather then the morning ; she was very adamant to deny then and there, so unlike her siblings.. The ruby-eyed sibling did not go on those personal trips, but she didn't feel jealous, only just a bit on hearing some were taken to places she hasn't seen. She didn't care for the patrols.. But wanted to see more of the forest's beauty.

When she took them out of the plains, Vermillion couldn't help but look around curiously more. Once it during a small excursion to the outside where they played in the open pains, but didn't do much. She gazed as no elk were around, they seemed to not be around the area and stayed within the forest. The child gazed upon the mountains in the distance as well, thoroughly impressed on it's size and.. How close it was, really. Though their mother urged them on, and it seemed she had something to do for them as she carried a bundle of feathers, that had her cock her head to the side in wonder.

"Today we will learn to hunt and prowl. You are all old enough to hunt small prey, birds, rabbits, mice.. We shall practice." As they stepped into the clearing, a wind rustled through. Swiping the golden grass between, yet it was slowly simmering to the ground and not a luxurious height, for winter was soon to come. She noted in particular a few deer within the distance, but as open as it was she had plenty of space to take them elsewhere in an undisturbed spot. Sunny and bright, clouds slowly looming to cast a shadow as she walked away from the forest — a good inch of space to.

Though two were feeling unwell, and she took them aside and instructed, "join when you feel more rested," she said to @Rohesia and @Melrose. A slight pitiful glance especially at the rosen daughter, for she always was.. Sickly. Weak and frail, it was seemed to just be in her nature to be like that and the Queen could not be too rough. She was hoping that just maybe, she was well enough to be in the activity, but her coughing fits prevented. A pity, indeed.

She placed the feather pile onto the ground, instructing her litter to stay distances away, "now prowl forth," she commanded, "lower your body where it barely touching the ground, and watch each step for the most quiet of stalks."
