Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Poseidon

The rain continued on, just as they had to do. The Queen could be seen running out of the forest, it quite difficult to try and find anything huntable within the forest ; even though some of the fish were flopping around from the overflowing creaks and streams, her children whined for something else. She too desired something other then fish, and the caches were currently either lost from the flooding or being rebuilt - she did not want to waste her packs resources when others desperately needed it as well. She decided to hunt for herself.

Upon breaching the forest, even the plains were soaked in mud. The once luxurious golden grass was now but smoldering mud and damp, she could feel her feet sinking into it. The flowers were still around to be ate, but it wasnn't enough for a wolf to do so. She saw no elk laying in the distance, assuming most continued to stay within The Elk's Crown for any decent shade.

Looking up, Celnes could see the harsh, darkened clouds.

Across she only vaguely make out that of the Winterheart forest, and momentarily narrowed at them. Blooming thoughts occurred, the plan of domination of so, and yet.. She continued to not have time for such matters, thinking that of the flourishment of Elkshire and more gathering of Bearbucks, it was her upmost priority even if greed wanted more land then that she could handle. A backburner plan, for the meanwhile.

Gaze focusing back, her ears twitched at the sound of the rain coming forth. Though she could see it - that of a rabbit. Without skipping a beat did she start to chase after it, while it wouldn't feed all of her children.. It'd feed herself.

Poseidon was out for no reason in particular, as usual. @Amphitrite still hadn't really come around. Things were... fine. She was healthy and reasonably happy, but nothing was clear as far as what she wanted. She seemed distant and unreachable, and Poseidon both worried and longed for more. Perhaps it wasn't just wanting more from her, but elsewhere, too. He was starting to feel like he was becoming his brother @Zeus, only there was no one to fantasize over.
Waltzing out into the woods, he followed the scent of a rabbit. The smell was damp and lingering as a misty rain fell.
He didn't realize how close he was to Elkshire until it was far too late. The scents carried well on the humid air. He remembered the great queen, and how he had promised to bring her a gift that was truly worthy in his mind. At the very least, it would not be something of deerkind, as this was an insult to her. He didn't fully understand it, but figured he didn't really need to in order to find her something good. He had planned to do far more, but evidently his aimless wandering and deep thought had brought him practically to her doorstep.
The rabbit was still ahead. He crept up toward it, even though in the rain, he could not see it.
 Then, she struck.
As happened, the rabbit flew toward him, and he found it with his jaws, clamping shut by very peculiar chance without needing to move hardly at all from his spot beyond a slight lunge. The Once-King of the sea dropped the dead creature almost immediately, wondering, yet smelling, the woman who had chased it to its end. He said nothing.

Though the plains were wide and golden, surely she should've saw the gray main in it's view.. Yet alas she was so distracted by the hunt, didn't realize the entity of the water God crossing over, and taking her rabbit. She thought of surprise for a moment to a stranger stepping into that of Elkshire plains. When she looked back any elk that were around had vanished upon the sighting of him so, their lazy day being over and taking cover closer into the crown itself. Perhaps that was a sign she should've noted firstly..

As she approached the foe, a smile started to rest upon her face when she realized who it was. Perhaps would've known sooner if the rain hadn't muted the scents, "My, when I mentioned to bring a meal, I did not think that would mean to take mine," Celnes said with a faint chuckle.

It was the queen of Elkshire herself, to his surprise. She looked almost completely different. Her face and body had changed somewhat. Poseidon didn't realize it was because she had become a mother during the time between when they had met, but something was different.
Smiling, he tilted his had bashfully. He also had not realized just how close he had roamed toward her domain. He'd hardly meant any disrespect, and so picked up the felled rabbit and brought it dutifully to her, dropping it before her feet with a delicate bow of his head. Taking a step back, he apologized cheerfully. “Sorry Queen — it's yours of course.” His tail wagged slowly, rather excited to see her again.
“You look different,” he mused. “Different good! The summer was good to you,” he clarified, finding her face had grown more graceful and her body mature.

"Do I?" When she turned her head to look at herself, she could not see a difference. Brown as she ever would be, thought for a moment he inferred her colors may have changed. She was not that old yet to gain but a grizzly look, and like most — hoped for the eternal beauty that may be. When she slightly hummed, she wondered if.. "I had to lose some weight after my litter, perhaps I have still yet to loose it." Though she chuckled, even if his statement inferred that she was fat, it was of no matter. Not often the Queen would say, but she knew even with a weight gain, she was a temptress of a wolf.

"Perhaps you can help me hunt another, but of a larger game," she mused toward him.

He nodded, looking over her, trying not to be rude. She had a gorgeous way about her. She held herself regally, with great pride. Even he as king of the sea had never held himself quite in that way. She had been born and bred for it, no doubt.
When she revealed that she had a litter of her own, Poseidon's smile grew and he beamed, greatly excited by the news. He largely ignored her concern that she hadn't lost all of the weight, as the idea of a skinny woman with puppies was not only absurd, it was offensive. “That's where your glow is coming from! Amazing!” His tail wagged. He had so many questions, but she moved things along quickly, apparently hungry for more than the meal he had assisted in capturing.
“Oh, of course. What are you in the mood for, fair queen?” Poseidon, himself, was in the mood for, well, her. But he didn't serve that one up on the menu.

She only smiled at him and chuckled, though saying no more as he stroked the already large ego of the Queen. She would hope she had lost the tough of baby weight, and perhaps at the moment her body pinnacled at such value. Wolves too, desired to be beautiful, and she especially, who is believed to be one of the blessed Deorwines, to achieve such love.

"Follow me, there are some within the mountain peaks, that are desirable," she said, already turning away from him and toward that of the crag itself. She glanced at the elk that peered rom the background trees, though they were also huntable.. Most knew that Elkshire were off forbidden hunts, and she smiled gently at them from the golden plains — then faced to reach toward the mountains path.

The fair queen was content to lead him, and for the moment, he was content to follow her. Thus far, things between the respective packs had remained peaceful. The Pantheon was not so many that they would bother her, he thought, even though today he had ventured perhaps too close for her comfort.
Poseidon looked briefly at the elk situated in the trees beyond. Even normally, he would never seek out prey animals that could so clearly already see him. They watched carefully. He remembered that Célnes had requested he never bring her deer or elk as a gift; he'd gathered from that and the name "Elkshire" that these animals were somehow special to her and her people. This didn't really make sense to him. He had happily hunted the beasts when he had the human tools to do so, and he did it now. He had even ordered venison in his favourite pub — many times, in fact.
He remembered they served it with spinach, and he always hated that. They overcooked it every time.
“Lead on,” he answered her, following along through the rocky pathway. He wondered what "some" she had in mind. Boar seemed the reasonable size and choice, but they didn't often frequent mountains. Perhaps she knew where the goats presided.

She smiled at his agreement go elsewhere for the hunt. Though ungulates were not completely off limits, she knew the taste of goats especially. They were particular bunch, enjoying the strife of headbutting and chasing.. She would turn from him, to lead away to the mountains closely tucked to her own group. A jawbone, many called it, for pillars stood in an intimidation from above and yet — flourished in vegetation.
