Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She removed herself from his presence, limbs following the halls - familiar and not. These paws had not touched this ground, though she had. These claws had never scraped the sandstone, and yet she had. Was this her body? Was she in a new one? She looked as if she had never faced hell - but when had she been scar-less? Not since she was a yearling, perhaps earlier.

The Twin Gods had brought her in and given her scars.

Had she had them before?

She could not remember.

She was not a yearling but she was younger. Energy soared in her limbs, replacing the weariness of age. She was without scars. She was whole, her ears and tail returned to her. Her noble features were now unmarred and she lifted her head high, moving through the shadows and seeking one wolf out in particular.

“@Exalted.”

There was so much she did not remember but she knew the girl, she knew she had to find her, no matter this strange mixture of weakness and strength that she felt.

Mother was gone for far too long. Nosebleed seemed to have evaporated as well. They were all flitting away, falling like sand between her claws. She could hold onto no one. There was nothing to be done except try to Clint desperately to what their was now. She and the Soft-Brain. They were the pale ones here, the ones of superiority.

As much as she hated him, she needed him. It enraged her but lifted some of the burden. They both wanted the same thing. So, even without Mother her fangs would steer clear of his throat.

She wandered now, in those cool halls. Aimless. Thinking. Planning. What was their next move?

That's when she heard a call. The voice familiar and not. Her hackles rose. An intruder? How? She had been here the whole day. No one could slink in without her knowledge.

Fearlessly she swung around to find this voice. To confront it's speaker. Her lips were pulled back slightly to show she would humor no games within their halls.

The scent and the site that confronted her was that same sense of unfamiliar familiarity. Her lips lowered back down but could not hide the full length of her monstrous teeth. In front of her was a blessed white. She held the features of royalty.

Of kin.

She was beautiful. But still very much... Trespassing.

"How have you wandered into our halls, Lost One?" Was she lost? Or was she right where she needed to be? Her looks and that strange sense that overtook her staved off any violence for the intruder. "Speak your name and your purpose for trespassing on our sacred grounds."

Everything happened for a reason, no?

For a moment, her breath trembled within her lungs.

There, ahead, was her Blessed Daughter, the first of her kind she had deemed worthy of following in her steps. The other's face held authority and for a moment, the woman considered playing, seeing what Exalted would do if she pretended to be another. No. She would not do that to her Child, though cruel curiosity blossomed within her. She instead clung to what she could remember, those fragments of this land. She could not remember everything, not even close, but she knew this one and knew their connection.

Would she remember her or would she have to say it aloud?

“Death took me in its arms again, First Daughter,” the reborn witch said, crimson gaze flitting from one blue eye to the other. “It took my sacrifices and granted me rebirth.” How piteous, that Death would have claimed her young so close to their birth? Their young lives, never to breathe the air of the desert. Never to grow strong. She knew not why or how they had died, just the quaking emptiness within her that she knew in her heart was not the result of joy.

She could not recall the details. Kenan felt faint in her memory, nor would he have taken her here, she was sure. Other faces flitted in blurs and splashes behind her mind's eye but she could not... she did not know to place them.

There was no fear from the other wolf, just as she would expect from one of her caliber. There were a thousand ways this interaction would go and yet the path they took lead to the interaction she never even dreamed of.

"First Daughter." Exalted's eyes widened and she recoiled as if she were stricken. There was no way. No way that this could happen... but who else would know those sacred words? Would know what to call her to speak to her soul? "Andraste?" Exalted was nothing if not superstitious and now understood why this wolf felt familiar while being completely different.

It was their Mother. Returned in the flesh.

"Mother..." She knew. She felt it in her soul that this was no trick. Who else could be granted a rebirth so Divine? There were no others who were so worthy as this woman here. She was gifted a body anew, of purity.

She rushed forward and would attempt to bury her face into the woman's chest. "You have returned to us." Death would not hold her. She truly was like a goddess. "Welcome home..." She whispered, unable to contain the joy that radiated in her heart at the return of their matriarch. Right now in this instant, that was all that mattered.
