Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

If @Belial followed her into the waters of the ocean beach, she would be swimming toward that of the peaks. A gentle swim toward the currents of water, twisting and turning to avoid the other sepentine rocks that slathered across the sepulcher. She would occasionally look back, just to make sure he was there and not floading into the watery graveyard.

Though her aim to be, was that of an unusual structure. She still hadn't named it, but Vendrussel kept it useful as it was. She would place her paws onto the rock, and slowly move toward it's peaks, but an ocean look back.. Did he make it?

^^And for a moment, he’d just stood there, blinking at her as she ran into the depths of the beach, swimming into the ocean. Was this actually happening? Belial took several steps to the shore, stopping softly, when his paws touched the water. She looked back, and Belial smiled with the dip of his head.

And then he took several steps back, and ran into the water, like she had. Following her path as best as he could. Swimming as a wolf wasn’t nearly the same as swimming as a dragon, but alas, he’d been used to the waters, and eventually coming to the rock that she had, glancing up at her with an arch of his brow and wag of his tail.

As her body clung to waters, she pulled herself out from the ocean and to the jagged island. Slanted as it was, she could peak out the unknown torii at the stop, and watched as the rope swayed gently from the wind. Untouched by the water that never seems to reach, though she called it sacred - in truth she knew not of it's true purpose. For herself and those of now she claims to the ford, the ritual of the dive that will always take. It became that realm to force them off, and to truly test whether they would commit to them, or simply leave off.

As she climbed the steep hill, she looked below the cliffs, and faintly remembered. He was not someone she knew, and she could not force him off so unjustly. A moment of silence, before speaking so and waiting for him to catch up to the cliffs, "To become that of now you once were, a dragon in soul but body of wolf - and to give trust to those at the ford," she said so with words of promise within a tone of melancholy, calming and peaceful..

"You must jump."

^^Belial took note of the shape of the rocks; the fading scent of others, and the fact that there were only two of them, and not the rest of Ven’s kin, which had been the point of Belial following her out here. Yet now, as she lured him higher and higher upon the steep hill of rocks, the woman before him commanded that he needed to jump.

What was this? Some sort of test? Had speaking the language of his kind and her ancestors not been enough for her? Now she wanted him to jump back into the waters that he just got out of? A look of amusement slithered it’s way across his face, and Belial cocked his head towards the waters for a brief moment. How many others had she said this to, and how many had retreated into the forest? “If only it were that easy.” Belial whispered, knowing that jumping wouldn’t magically give him the powers to transform back, but alas, he would humor her nonetheless. “I’ll be right back.”

And then the dragon-wolf would turn and take a leap of faith into the waters and oh, how he missed his wings.

"Within my old clan, to jump is a leap of faith to give yourself in trust to the ford itself, and the members that there is. Even if you can longer fly, you will not die." Though if he heard her, she was not sure, as she said so while he gave his leap of faith. Though he spoke of the sacred language of the dragons ancestors she knew of, even then the trial would always be taken. For he was not only a possible kin to herself, it would be to give the trust to the others that also held reign to the island. Though few in numbers, the trust would be a must, and that included the dive to take.

She peered down from the cliff, an amused smile while seeing if he would emerge from it - and if he did not for those few moments, she would too go forth and attempt to scavenge before he drowned.

^^Taking a leap of faith for his unnamed queen was not an issue, no; Belial had been the dragon of the sea and thus, diving into the waters and swimming were two of his talents. He would do his best to swim as deep as he could, which wasn’t deep at all compared to what he was used to, but alas, would finally emerge with a groan.

His eyes lingered upon the woman of the mountain with the arch of brow as he remained there for a time, before slowly swimming back out to her and shaking out his coat. “What else do you require of me, m’lady?”

"I am Vendrussel, Alpha of the Dragonford Isles and all that they claim," a paw to her chest, proudly stating who she was to the other while he referred to her as 'm'lady.' A surprised title, though didn't react to it, more just a slight fluttering from within to be like that of the gentle ladies. A twist she couldn't deny she liked, though for the time being was not to dwindle on long.

"Welcome to the ford," when she thought of a nickname, a slight hum rang out in a wonder. For claiming to be a dragon already.. What more could she call him? Through all those who came, were dubbed in a way of a 'name', perhaps some to be used as a nickname or a codename for another day, though generally Vendrussel one way or another, started to give them terms..

Some part of her wanted to call him 'the first dragon,' yet at the same time he was not the first within the ford, nor' of the earliest ancestors. It took some moments for it to come, but her tail wagged just slightly as she smiled to his climbing back to the rock, "reborn dragon."

^^Belial had originally thought that her name was to be hidden; something earned among her most trusted circle, until she spoke to finally introduce herself. Vendrussel, she called herself; the alpha of the dragons, which had an interesting ring to it. He would have thought she’d give herself a more fancy title, but he supposed alpha would do for the moment.

He nodded to her respectfully, though his brows arched, unaware that she was bestowing him with a nickname. After all, it was a mere description of what he was, though he’d take it with another nod of her head.

“Pleasure to finally meet you, Vendrussel.”

"Come, our land is within an isle," they stood among the leviathan's many pillars, though her paw gestured closer to it's middle — where there was but a decently sized island, trees standing amongst the middle, sandy beaches, rocky beaches.. Even a seal, laid to one of the boulders, barking at the seagulls that flied around. A mirage could be seen from that of the beach, covered by the rocks and but a perfect gateaway for those laid to it's claim. Either to find it's path, or swim to it's banks.. It can be proven difficult for some.

"I will show you around — though a rule is to gain trust of all, before able to den within. We expect to guard it's borders well," she so warned. Though part of them, does not mean all trust is there, as more then herself claim to the Dragonford waters. To rest within was but a grace to be given, but not yet a home to call self — guarding borders, was the first step.

wrap? can oocly background showing around!
