Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Off he went, squirming in the air to land on all four paws in the sand below. Maral couldn't deny the little spark of triumph she felt to see him fall, and know it was her doing. Her tail gave a proud little flick and she looked down with a blank expression at her clearly frustrated brother, before a voice from behind drew her attention there instead.

Edith approached, and her ugly scowling face was the last thing that the shadow wanted to see. A frown tugged at her own maw and she turned her face away, focus set once more on the log where she balanced carefully, and began to pick her way toward the other side of the pit where she hopped off and hurried toward the food. She promptly reached for it, growling and shoving her way through the other pups who'd already gathered, and inhaled whatever she could fit into her mouth.

Well yes he was, thank you for asking. Can I go home now? Of course he wouldn't say such things. The boy was far too tired, scared, and hungry to speak up against anyone older - not yet anyway. He was getting pretty tired of how he was being treated differently than the rest, even if this time he really wasn't. Then again... why was Vermillion getting away with doing nothing?!

The man who yelled at him was now picking him up and tossing the prince back to the beginning of the trial, yelping as he hit the ground with a soft thud that didn't quite hurt. It was more shocking to be sent flying like that and he didn't like the feeling it gave him. So he yelped pathetically. The mean man called out again and declared if he did not cross the log then he wouldn't eat.

Fine, I'll just starve. He huffed to himself, tossing a somewhat spiteful glare over to Vermillion who was only NOW trying her own attempt.

Looking back at the feasting pups Remus only nodded, their instruction was complete for now, and the carcass was being stripped bare, not leaving much for the weak of heart, and that was ok. Remus noted the weak ones among the group. Their spirit had yet to be hardened, and they would require further instruction.

Looking to @Célnes  the guard made a simple statement, motioning to the pups who would not try, "Do not feed them, bring them to me tomorrow.  I will show them the meaning of failure."

Looking down his nose at them, he silently mused that the 'weak' where sometimes the strongest, often times their stubbornness only needed to be focused into an undying will.  Though he did not let the pups see that yet, he would only show them a harsh exterior for now.

wanna wrap here and Remus can take on the ones who did not complete in another thread.

One by one, others would cross the bridge, each sibling an added obstacle as he tried to savor the meal himself, but eventually there would be no way to fend off the bodies that came for their own take at grabbing food. They all tugged and twisted, gorging more akin to beasts than those civilized of the deorwine culture their mother had been attempting to raise them into. But who was to help it? After all, that is what they were at their core. Beasts with a hunger. Perhaps now was but a glimpse of what other genes lingered in the blood between their veins.

Fed up by the crowd of bodies that now fought for each bite, Calhoun pulled at the leg, twisting and thrashing as he tried to dislocate the limb and pull apart the flesh. He cared little for how blood stained his fur, the crimson hue boding well amongst the rays of sun that kissed his orange undertones. Eventually, there had been some kind of snap, sickening yet hidden amongst the frenzy as the prince pulled away with a leg of his own. He would leave the others to fight, but he would find a spot to sit and chew at his own leisure until nothing was left but scraps and bone.

When only that was left, he would take the femur, favoring its size as a chew toy for later. Satisfied with his work, the boy lazed with a beat of his tail against the thick grass, blood still smeared along his jowls as he hugged his bone close and waited for the sign that they could leave and return to their usually scheduled playtime or early morning nap.

The prince was late to the party, and the dining guests that were his siblings were already taking their fill of the now carcass, leaving just a right amount for himself, but less and none for the ones trailing behind him. Little did he care, as Calhoun pulled and tugged at the hare, his only mindset now was to cling and set his jaw rigid to not allow more than his share to be taken away.

Using this tight pressure to his advantage, he too took ahold of a leg, an opposing front one, - using his brothers' weight to bare his own tugging and wrench it away from its dead body. Scooting off, as soon as he felt the pressure release under his grasp, and away from other siblings for him to enjoy his prize in peace.

It was an amusing playdate she will admit — and settled to which of her kin were the more 'dominant' ones. Especially Vermillion and Aldritch, both who did not manage to go forth, though her son did and failed.. Her daughter in the end as well was too late, too meek to do it earlier. One who didn't give the chance and the other who gave up too early. Though there was another who did not participate, but she held a weakened body compared to them all and refrained from letting her do the sorts..

A nod was given, as she eyed her two weakest. Surely they had heard what he said ; and surely learned they need to take a chance, and not give in, "Do not give up, nor' wait till' it's too late. A chance must be taken when you see, and see it through the end — as royalty, to show your worth to the rest of the kingdom." She said to the young, though the rest most likely knew of this by now and were feasting on the prize ahead. She almost felt bad for the meal, as they ripped it apart and occasionally could see a few drops of blood spray ahead..

Young and energetic.
