She wondered how the guard was faring - especially as she didn't talk to him much during her.. So to say, hiding from the world. She also couldn't get rid of the expression he held, the one where he knew what had happened. Though as no signs were to show - Célnes did not announce it to Elkshire. Only when, the obvious came to fruit, would she announce what there would be.

Then the matter of guards. Though all packs strive to so, the Queen continued to play around with the 'Royal Guard,' the most trusted individuals.. To guard herself, and the children. The old home had no such ideal, as Déorwine's were especially protective over their own kind, and the very thought of royalty bearing more so.. Even any mother, the group was quite protective over any.

But she was not amongst those kinds, only a few baring their name. It was a shame, for the royalty that came to their clan was but a lessened version in this wild - and by obvious, she strove to further it. Though in a warped view of how she saw fit, to disgrace the colors of all, but white. Only then, could she truly bring forth her ideals of power and the crown, that Célnes held firmly.

There was three in particular she thought of; Flynn, Meissa, and Remus..

Though Remus's loyalty was still in question.

Remus wasn't typically to far from the queen's side.  Today was no exception.  The seasoned guard would usually stay out of talking distance of most, even the one he was meant to guard.  This behavior would generally help ward off un-necessary conversations and help Remus do his job: scanning the perimeter.   In fact, he didn't really take a liking to most that he met in Elkshire, especially his employer; though he was duty bound to protect her.

Today was a rare day in which he was close enough, and in an uncharacteristic fashion; he held eye contact a moment to long.  Hoping the queen wouldn't take this as an invitation to make pleasant, he moved his gaze back to the underbrush, searching.

Though his wish was not to be granted. As a shadow as he was, she hadn't had many chances to directly talk to him - nor question how he lies within Elkshire. Her pumpkin-gaze did not remove itself when contact as made, rather she smiled at him, and spoke, "Remus," the Queen started, "It has been some time since we spoke. Even if the desire is not there, there is still much to talk about."

She still remembers when he joined that he said he would take a trial on joining - but there wasn't true loyalty as of yet. At times he did.. Rather irk her so, but he was true to his business. She would enjoy if he remained around, as guards were rather sparce compared to the Night Walkers and other groups. Though many held different ranks, she knew in the end that muscle, was always an important factor, especially if war loomed in the background, just as it did many moons ago.

"Of course, your highness. If my counsel is asked of, I will give it. ", He replied, sitting on his haunches at attention.  Furthermore, he was careful not to make the wrong sort of eye contact, not letting much personality seep through the statement, nor his expression.   Remus felt as if he knew what this was: a common occurrence with rulers.  Almost as if he had experience with this in some past life, he knew that the upstart ruler would need to secure many keys to power, and gauge loyalty to those around her.  For no-one truely rules alone-- its not like she would be talking to him because she truly cared for idle chat.

He hadn't said anything yet, save for the moment when he let it slip out; that shocking moment where he caught whiff of the barbarian on the queen. As for Remus' true level of political experience that was better kept to himself for now.  But, for his military experience that could be shared.

She couldn't deny that was a part she respected and enjoyed Remus; while at times he made obvious of his distaste through actions, at the same time the man always held a respect to her. The crown she carried felt often like it titled, as many seemed to simply fly by without a care to the title, as if she was just another weak woman.. So Célnes felt at times, but she wondered if it was simply amped up due to the so-called 'pregnancy' hormones she so heard about. All should be decided afterwards the delivery.

"How do you feel, being in Elkshire.. Peace seems to be ambient." Though trouble was sent moons ago with a straggler causing issues with Night Walkers, and sending Remus and Flynn to escort with.. Nothing came fruit, as the woman who angered them so seemed gone, mysteriously wisped away from this land. Otherwise, peace seemed to always be here - no troubles to call, and no general to be needed. He was a man who claimed to be one, someone who follows gladiator-like ways.

Yet the skills were at the moment, valued, but useless.

It was almost exactly the question that he expected.  Somehow the old dog had been in the throws of power much longer than he could remember.  The upstart queen had a lot to learn. It was tiresome in a way, Remus had little interest in playing politics, nor any ambition to rule anyone.  Yet he was interested in her, for he was always called to the side of those in power.  She knew nothing about him, so he was safe. There where no strings she pull his heart with.  Up to this point, she hadn't tried to seek his council.

And so, the guard reacted with all the poise and experience that would be expected, not letting a drop of his emotion through.

He understood the insinuation, this either spoke to her incompetence as a ruler or was simply a product of her current moody temper.   "There is noting wrong with peace your highness, and a sharp fang ensures it."

One way or another, this was one of the few times that she chose to speak to him, and this is what she decided to say.  He could make a ruler out of her, but not one that would be kindhearted and fair.  Though, it was common that the great where rarely good.  Perhaps motherhood would temper such a juvenile heart.

Born to be blue-blooded, or perhaps brown-blooded would be more appropriate to a Déorwine. Raised to rule, her father was the ideal future King that the wolves hoped for ; at least so he would say. The other siblings had no use for such a crown and had no thoughts, her aunts and uncles just wanted to be at peace, and away from his trickery. She knew all too well of the tricks he would want to pull, but never went through as his 'competitors' would pull out. She wondered though why her grandparents, all the way to the end, refused to hand it down. Maybe it was due to his power-hungry ways, that she too, inherited,

"You are right, but it does bring a wariness for when trouble does come along."

Though the biggest difference is she had a kingdom ; twice. Her first reign was the renewal of the homeland, yet a failure at the hands of disagreement and unable to control. A religion so caught up that her family rebelled, and so disgusted by others they were shunned.. In the end she too, met an ending of irony ; stabbed what is hated most amongst her clan - a white elk.

"Trouble never hurts to shape the young."

The Queen didn't want her kids to be weak in that sense they would fall under the pressure of danger. She wanted them to learn, and to rise for when she was gone - a legacy to leave to them. Soldiers, to call of her own if the day Célnes ever got betrayed. She would hope, and pray to the High Elk, those she gave birth to, would not do the same.. And she was preparing for it that way.

Now, the fledgling ruler was speaking sense.  Remus did share the sentiment that Elkshire was to soft.  Most of its inhabitants seemed to be good hearted with high spirits, yet soft and unprepared, especially in comparison to their warlike neighbors.  There where a few who could be capable, yet training could hone even the softest.  Flynn came to mind, seemingly a capable looking young man, yet he moved without a care in the world, skipping across the woodlands  like a pup.  Meissa seemed as if she could hold her own in a brawl, but he would like to test that.  Even those who would not particularly be soldiers should still learn to hold their own if times demanded it.   Remus would deny none.

The gears where turning in the soldier's head, outwardly taking a moment to ponder.

Turning back to the queen with determination the soldier had his answer, "Then I shall ensure that the young are hardened.  I will bring trouble to them.  Give me a decree."

She couldn't help but chuckle at the seriousness he took ; though she was honestly considering it. It wouldn't be horrible to have someone in Elkshire train her young, a gladiator of sorts, rather then the mob boss of Night Walkers - their biological father. There was a part of her wondering if the man would attempt to sway her children over to his say, she couldn't deny that at times it swelled to her head.. But would he really risk their ally ship, just for a mere vassals? The Queen didn't know him too well to determine what sort of actions she would take.

"Do say, what would you suggest?"

"Like you said implied my queen, resistance shall shape the young."  He replied sternly, holding down his excitement.  "Firstly, physical training, then when they are strong, I will teach the art of war."

Remus waited silently, holding himself in a proud posture.  Suddenly, he remembered who he was talking to, his heart sank a bit, though he did not show it.

The Queen never minded a proud warrior, rather she liked the factor of those of Elkshire to remain that stance ; noble and prideful, a towering venture over others. She was pleased with such thought, especially if they never did that act to her, and with proper respect, her thoughts toward them would always improve. Though Remus himself was always a wolf who went up and down on her list, actions she was pleased with, and other times grinded her gears. She sometimes wisped it away as a pregnant woman's hormones, but at the same time.. The gladiator was a hard-stoned man, but very, free-spirited.

"When they are young I would enjoy them to gain such experience, even if it is not their.. Desired route in life." Her paw drawled to the ground, circling so as she hummed slightly. She agreed, to shape the young with physical training ; Célnes would dread any weak children within her litter. She found his plan appropriate, even if they preferred another path, it would never harm to have that in a lesson plan. As wolves with so much free time, she didn't find it as an issue.

"The royal tutor of war," she chuckled at such a title, but not at him or the plans, as the Queen smiled.

"Then when the time comes, it shall be done."  He replied, not giving her any more or less.  He figured now that the more promises he gave her the worse off he would be.  He would not play father to these children, who where bastard to that barbarian.  Their tender care would have to come from someone else.

wrap?

She didn't expect the man to be any sort of a father-figure, rather it was the opposite of what she desired. To have a man be a strict tutor - she wanted all their hardship complaints to come to her, to be the perfection of what a 'mother' was, the loyalty they would hold would be more grand. A firm reign on them, where safety can be trusted within their loyalty..

Though the weakness that came from being born, as she was warped from the neglect of her parents, the Queen wasn't to do the same. Rather she would make them tough through methods of teachings, and for Remus to help. A smile and a nod, another agreement was made.
