One does not wish to be burned alive. It is not something that one ever should desire to experience. The smoke that fills one's lungs, clouding and blocking essential function with a sweep of black tar. The smell of hair burning, turning to ash. The feeling of flesh peeling away, charring and blackening. It is not something anyone should ever experience.

Thankfully, it was not something that Nevada had experienced first hand.

She had escaped the carnage by mere hours, fleeing at the first scent of fire. The first sign of smoke, rising above the maze in a way she knew was inescapable. The first howls and cackles of the monsters who were coming after her. The first sign of Ragnarok. She had sought out her children, her mates, her goddess, anything - and then

   blackness

  had filled her everything.

She did not know the way she died. If she was aware of it at the time, she could not remember. That all-consuming blackness had become her existence and she had floated in nothingness for so long that she could barely remember to breathe.

But breathe she did. Gasping, sucking in cold morning air, she burst into the new world and fell

 Fell?

Fell as in-elegantly as possible from a tree.

How she had found herself in the tree's branches, she had no clue. Whether she had materialized into existence somewhere between branch and ground was also beyond her comprehension as she tumbled down into a sea of blue. This blue was not water, but instead endless flowers, spreading out in either direction. She lay among the leaves, gasping for breath, before she rose and shook herself free of the leaves and dirt and... blood? Blood was trailing down her face and she could see it between her eyes, spread across her snout.

She lifted a paw and wiped away at the blood, feeling it smear across her snout, but there was no pain. Licking her lips, she found the fur as pristine and scarless as in her youth. Her scars had faded.. but how? She felt... younger, somehow. Full of life in a way she hadn't felt in more days than she could remember.

She turned in place, still trying to make sense of where she was and why the receding blackness made her feel so very alone.

There was nothing like a saunter through natures Kingdom, the variety of timbers towering collectively, standing tall and formidable in assorted forests, these were the Castles. Every so often, Aurora would pause to look up the length of each stately trunk, its branches straining to their uttermost, hugging outwardly, inviting all within its colossal embrace. Its fallen leaves from the recurring seasons, carpeting the floor, cushioning the females graceful footfall, almost as if a hidden secret. Leaving no trails behind her, no marks, she was a nymph in her forest, gliding from a place to the next effortlessly.
She’d come across what looked like the remnants of a bustling stream; at the precipice of its existent it would’ve intrusively coursed its way throughout the narrow paths of the woodlands, now it was nothing more than a silken trickle. The misshapen rocks and boulders now surfaced, and scattered along disorderly, and these were Auroras stepping-stones, agilely hopping from one to the next, to reach the other side.
The skies were marbled with pearl-white flocculent clouds, the suns rays dissipating from one moment to the next; a play of hide and seek with Aurora as she sought out new domains to explore.

This next one was to be quite exquisite.

Leaping onto the last boulder to reach the other side of the stream, the female pushed her way through the thick insistent branches of an evergreen, as if the serenity she were about to behold wasn’t meant to be easily accessed by guests.
Closing her eyes firmly as she thrusted against the tough branches, wincing as some raked through her luscious pelt.

Feeling the openness the other side, her lucent lavender orbs blinked open, and she stood in awe what she was confronted with. The immediate pigmentation of blues, lilac, violets, azures, all engrossed her senses, the way they cascaded along the floor like an interwoven tapestry, not leaving any margin for the greens she so commonly saw in other forests, to make their presence. She hesitated before walking forth, feeling as though she were trespassing these pure grounds, as she didn’t want to flatten any of the abundance of flowers that carpeted her sedate gait. Occasionally the sun was granted access by the tall leafy trees, the rays so abundantly clear as they shone down on different patchworks of flowers, accentuating the lighter reflections of the patterned tones of royals and lilacs.

She deftly leaned back to sit on her rump, her plush train curled around her protectively, as another creature caught her attention. The many creatures. Dark blue wings fluttered silently around her, whispering for her sole attention. A gentle smile grew along her maw, as one of the inaudible butterflies landed on the end of her snout -- a reassuring greeting into their home.

Auroras profound trance was broken though, as the sound of a nearby thud shattered it, causing an astounding array of Royal Blue wings to scatter tumultuously. Her expression draped with concern, as the origin of the noise came into view not so far away; she was alone, in an unchartered location. The champagne femme sunk her tall figure to the purple blanket beneath her, decreasing her size, and watching the other Wolf guardedly.

They were doing better. So much better than when they'd first arrived and ten times better than when they'd been with The Pack. It felt... freer. They could move about, talk, and do what they wanted without worry or care. They traveled with their new friend. Their friend who was teaching them to hunt and care for themselves properly. Under their tutelage, they were able to put on some additional weight. The skin did not cling to bones, the pelt was not as ruffled, the scales glistened and showed life. They weren't healthy but they were on that path. Soon they would be respectable in appearance, even now, they attempted to keep themselves groomed just as their companion did. It seemed right. They were beautiful, The Whisperer did not want to bring the air down with her unkempt coat.

It was what she rose to do when she realized that they were alone. The previous night they had moved and hunted as they always did. The days were for sleeping, the nights for play... but where were they? They could smell that Aurora had been here before but now they had left. The wolf and the snake did not worry, however, this was how things were. Sometimes she would rise first and sniff about for things and other times Aurora would. It was no trouble to find their companion so that they might have a bit of company.

The snake lifted from their neck, tongue slithering into the air as they tasted the wind. They knew where to go.

The wolf followed the snake's silent direction to a field of beautiful flowers. Things like this The Whisperer had never seen before... or had she just never appreciated it? In any case, they would stop, look at the scenery and then continue on until they found Aurora. The champagne coat of their companion seemed right at home amongst the picturesque landscape, they almost didn't want to to join them for fear of ruining the scene... but join them they did, for they were always nervous and it brought them comfort to be near their friend.

Especially when another wolf was about.

They tucked tail and eased onto the ground next to Aurora, close enough to touch pelts if allowed. The small touch always made her feel better and it let the other know that they were there. They would do whatever deemed necessary to help this other wolf if that's what Aurora wanted. They said nothing but in her copper figure, it was clear that they were not trying to broker any arguments or conflict. They were here and they were peaceful.

The Whisperer is biologically female and others may see/notice and refer to them as such. The Whisperer does not normally notice gender and only notices others as "they". Whisperer always has the snake coiled about their neck unless otherwise stated; the snake is the only one that speaks.

The Whisperer is travelling with Aurora and she may jump into any of their threads.

The flurry of birds around her would have startled her if it weren't for her profound confusion. Instead, she watched them rise up, awash with emotions of varying degrees. This place was not home, was not where she had fled. There was no stench of fire, no call of murderous intent. The howls she had run from were not here. She had left the Valley multiple times but never had she come across this particular area.

Was it Inaria, that pack north that she had heard of with purple flowers in the trees? No, she decided as she looked up at the fresh greenery above her. There was absolutely nothing familiar about this place. Not the smells - lilac and earth, not the sounds - alarmed bird call turning into irritation, and not the sights - blues, lilacs, and stony grey.

But wait. Slight, but there, amongst the fluttering birds that escaped a predator who did not desire them. The grey was not a rock, but an organic shape. No, not one shape, but two - the other was vague browns. Eyes flashing from one shape to the other, she observed them from afar, though she could not see much from her vantage. Their scents did not carry to her yet, but while her hackles raised instinctively, she did not advance towards them.

Instead, she straightened herself, cleared her throat, and called, “Please, come out.”

Today, curiosity defeated fear and she smothered her nerves with a profound desire to survive this... whatever this was. It was not home, but from what she could remember before darkness, she had no home. “If this is your land, I apologize for the intrusion.” If these strangers were of a warring party, hunting down survivors, then she was done for. If they weren't... perhaps they would be able to shed some light on the situation.

An aerial dance of royal blues and azures pirouetted throughout the quaint woodlands by the butterflies, a small performance that soon reverted back to tranquility, as silence hung in the ambience. Drawing her attention away for brief moments as the familiar fragrance of her friend was inhaled, recognition settling upon her features as the brown femme and serpent settled alongside her; Aurora leant into their physique reciprocating their comfort.

Meanwhile, the ivory wolf had acknowledged them, their amiable voice coursing through her ears as Aurora appraised their hostility; resolving they were perhaps friendly. And ever the cordial dame, Aurora graciously pushed off the lilac pillow beneath her, raising her stature to her seat once again. Attentive ears pricked up atop her crane, bracing themselves for any abrupt noises.

'Oh, if anything I thought perhaps we were the intruders here', she would announce melodiously, her silk-like voice encompassing her lyrics. 'We mean no harm to you', her lavender eyes slid down to glance at her friend, to see her reaction to this, but only fleetingly so, as she returned her gaze to meet the others green orbs.

In spite of Auroras benevolence, she hesitated to offer more information at this point to the stranger, though she noticed the scarlet liquid staining her pure white features and couldn’t help but ask…

'Are you quite alright? Only I heard a noise, and you have blood on your face', her voice was draped with moderate concern.

They felt the silent show of reciprocation as their companion leaned gently into them. They appreciated it, even as their gaze did not waver from the white and blue wolf before them. They could not tell the other wolf's intent, only that they'd been noticed. The Whisperer tensed, body ever prepared for flight. Although they would not abandon Aurora, never that. They were just ready with their fight and flight reflexes.

However, it seemed that they would not have to flee this day. The other bid they come out in a calm enough tone. Both sets of eyes would look towards their companion. Although, she would not have to question as they rose and revealed themselves fully with The Whisperer following suite. They did not speak, only watched the other wolf with soft eyes. "We mean no harm to you." The wolf was quick to bob their head in a silent vote of assent. Aggression was never at the forefront of their mind.

Blood. An injury. Scarlet against the white. Subconsciously, both the snake and the wolf would begin testing the air to see if there were others nearby. There were plenty out there that would wish harm on another but there didn't seem to be anyone else so their attention returned to the injured wolf. They spoke no words as Aurora spoke all of the ones they needed for now. Wait and see, they were ever patient.

The two others carefully made themselves known and Nevada, recognizing them both as likely females who did not appear outwardly aggressive, sighed in quiet relief. She was an outlier in her home pack, finding the physical aggression that was so rampant there more an irritant than anything else. Yet, they viewed her with clear caution. At least, the darker of the two had a tension in her form that relayed the readiness to run.

It was then that she noticed the snake draped across the brown stranger's neck.

She observed it curiously, pondering its use. On-the-go poison, perhaps? Or was this wolf of the type to make pets and friends of smaller creatures. She hadn't encountered anything like this, so with the desire not to appear rude by staring, she turned back to the champagne woman, who was now speaking.

So, they were all strangers to this land. It made sense why these two were on edge, then, just as she was. This land didn't smell of pack, but there were always less-traveled parts within the hearts of territories. Since these two had made it this far in without encountering a pack, she assumed, she could only continue to assume that this was in fact not officially claimed land. If it was, the pack who had claimed it was ill-equipped to defend it. Upon learning they intended no harm, she would give a slight tilt of her jaw downward, acknowledging it.

When asked about the blood upon her face, she considered it again. “I feel no pain in it,” she mused, lowering her head and wiping at it with her paw. After a few sweeps, clear fur beneath was revealed. “Interesting - I had an old injury here that I would always see in my peripheral and it appears... healed?” Did the flowers here have some magical property to heal old wounds, where the growth of blood from the slope of her nose was the injury leaving her body?

No. Magic didn't exist, yet, there was no explanation that Nevada could discern yet.

Surely, she had just not noticed the fur growing over her injury. Perhaps during the memory she evidently had lost, since it was clear some time had to have passed. “Apologies for my sudden appearance. Is... Hm. Despite how this may sound, I don't know where I find myself. What are the packs or landmarks nearby?” If she could figure out what packs she was nearby, she might be able to figure out what direction she might need to head into. If she was near Inaria or Nardir, she would likely be able to make her way to them to find some protection until she figured out what was going on.

If she was near certain other packs, then she would need to move immediately to escape their notice. If they were still hunting her kin, she was in danger.

An eerie tranquility breezed through the newly discovered woodland. Aurora felt humbled, fortuitous of her findings. A sense of familiarity overwhelmed her though; a sense of normality here despite its eccentricity.
Aurora hadn’t been home for many moons, she couldn’t revive her memories of that once cherished place, apprehensive to recover those long forgotten memories.
And just as she settled her mind with these thoughts, another dark azure butterfly landed on her plush tail, it seemed unfazed by the current affairs between the unacquainted wolves.
She did not flinch nor shoo the creature away, just letting it rest there. Her attention occupied by a more pressing concern before her.

The white wolf told them they felt no aching where the injury was so evident on her face. The oozing crimson liquid had already darkened and crusted, flaking away as she wiped at it, revealing the delicate milk hue of her coat beneath it. Aurora frowned as she spoke of a previous scar, but she decided perhaps this was a self observation rather than an invite for discussion.

This new stranger came across as confused; solidifying Auroras judgment as they confessed to having no clues to where they were, or possibly unknowingly arriving to this location.

 Odd.

Something was vastly amiss here. Maybe they had in fact injured themselves worse than what Aurora previously queried. Not wanting to perplex the other even further than what they found themselves, her maw broadened into a genuine cordial smile; treading carefully.

If I am honest, I can’t answer that. We are merely travelling through these lands. Avoiding any that carry the scent of a pack’, she was yet to come across one really; foreigners to these terrains themselves. ‘I apologise, that is not very helpful’, confessing her uselessness to the situation. This dissatisfied her, as the amicable dame was effervescent when it came to assisting others; bound to this like an intimate signature.

Optimistically she turned to her brown companion, ‘Before meeting me, had you encountered any?’. She’d never investigated this; never asked of the whereabouts her friend had come from, hesitant she would be infringing upon their personal secrets.
Her lucent gaze drifted back to the other, a thought blooming all of a sudden, ‘Do you remember who you are?’, she was hopeful this could aid the others uncertainty, unlocking their mystery.

They could see the white and blue wolf staring, past what would be the normal observations. They didn't grow offended; they knew that someone traveling with a snake was strange to those without the history of soul-bonding that came naturally to The Pack. However, they were the quiet sort, subdued, and timid and felt themselves drawing in. They would dip their head nervously while the snake would lower their own head to almost hide amongst the dark fur on the wolf's head. The Body would step closer to Aurora, eyes not meeting the gaze of the stranger as they listened to the words with perked ears.

They were strange words. Of wounds being healed as if by magic... hmm. the wolf let out a musical, pensive hum. Finding such a thing odd though they added no verbal components to the conversation, instead allowing the topic to pass with just that addition.

The topic of packs came up and The Whisperer found themselves thinking about the pack they'd encountered upon first waking. Their dull golden gaze would take on an almost faraway look as they thought about that near terrible day. They nodded their head in reply to Aurora's question and the snake would expound further from their hiding place on the wolf's head. "Yesss... There were two. Aggressive. Bad..." They recalled while the wolf's eyes would roll this way and that, as if expecting them to pop out and finish what they'd started. "They were further sssouth... We ran away before blood would be spilled." The wolf shivered as she remembered what had taken place. They'd just gotten up after waking in the world and were nearly beset upon because of two warring tribes. Nearly caught in the middle. Or so, that was how they'd perceived it.

They would shake, as if to remove all of the bad thoughts that had popped up at remembering the packs and focus back in on the other, listening intently to what their name would be. Names were very important.

As much as these two were thinking about her clarity of mind, she considered it tenfold.

She had never had issues with memory, nor such strange situations as this. For her entire life, things had been clear. Even when faced with uncertainty, she had never dealt with anything like this. The gaps in her memory were startling and it was all she could do but retain composure and not go drifting off into thought. She figured that once she was on her own, she could have a good think and try to walk step by step back through what had happened to try to make sense of it.

The fact that she had no sense of it made her worry for her own state of mind.

The others spoke of avoiding packs and two that were indeed dangerous and violent and she made note of that. “That is more than nothing - I suppose I should head north then,” she mused aloud, as if to herself. She wouldn't impose on their already-formed traveling party - she was too polite to even ask, but she wondered how many other lost travelers there were in this strange unnamed place. Was she even still in the Strait? It did not seem that way. North. That was the general direction of the kinder packs... right? No, wait. She couldn't quite remember the specifics of packs in relation to home, she realized with a start.

Perhaps some of the furless creatures known as humans had snatched her up and taken her away. She'd certainly heard rumors of it happening, but had never met anyone who claimed to have experienced it firsthand.

When asked who she was, she answered readily enough, “My name is Nevada. I remember running from fire. I think we were under attack. And then... nothing.” Her face turned into a concerned self-targeted scowl as she looked at the flowers before her, uncertain. She remembered who she was, where she came from, her family and all that... but not how she came to be here in this place. “Ah - and your names?” That was, if they were of minds to share anything like that. She figured it was only fair, as she'd shared her own name with them, but she wouldn't fault them if they decided not to trust her.

Anguish tugged at her heartstrings when her companion relayed their experience, completely unaware of their previous confrontations. How crude and malicious their kind could be at times. Aurora recalled their own first meeting in that instance, remembering how The Whisperer accepted her generosity so quickly, admitting they hadn’t received such kindness in a while.
The graceful femmes plush tail moved slowly, gently curving it around either her friends tail or frame, whichever was closest, offering them a comforting touch; this gliding movement was enough to disturb the lounging butterfly, a haze of blue soaring past them as it took flight.
Auroras lavender spheres remained focused on the pale wolf though, ensuring she didn’t misinterpret any of their information provided, humming subduedly when they spoke of the direction in which to travel.

We’ve just travelled from the West. There were faint scents of packs that way, but as I mentioned before, we took care to avoid disturbing them. Hopefully which ever route you decide to take, you’ll find the answers you seek’.

My name is Aurora’, her maw spread into a veritable smile as she introduced herself. ‘Nice to meet you, Nevada. I am sorry to hear of your devastation though, that must’ve been an awful experience. I do hope you manage to return to your family or pack’. Authenticity rang true in all her words. Whilst she chose her temporary reclusive life, she empathised with the others forced reality.

They relayed their information and from their friend the comforting touch of their tail found itself twirling about their own. The brown-coated wolf turned a soft, appreciative smile to their companion as they reciprocated the gesture. Silently showing their gratitude for Aurora's continued kindness. Their eyes would flicker though, towards the shade of blue as the butterfly that they didn't know was so close, took flight. It was beautiful, just like the atmosphere here in these floral fields. How peaceful, how protected it felt here. Quite unlike what the world could truly be.

Nevada. They nodded and committed the name to memory. At the note of the fire and the nothingness of their memory, the wolf and the serpent found themselves reminiscing on how similar it sounded to their own tale. They could be seen communicating with each other, the snake humming and hissing every so quietly while the wolf did the same. How peculiar that one would lose their memory and while they retained their memory... they also remembered the nothingness after they'd laid down and woken up in a completely new world.

 What was this strange place?

They spoke mere moments after the quick, silent words that they had spoken amongst themselves. "Yesss... we hope you find what you seek." The serpent enunciated for themselves and the wolf that they coiled around. "We are called The Whisperer." And yes, they too really hoped that Nevada would find everything that she needed to be well and happy.

West. There were packs there, as well. Did she want to group up with a pack to the west? What was west... Sicher? The desert? She had no clue that in this land, the desert was to the east - if she had, perhaps she would have considered crossing it to search for home, thinking that this desert was the same as that which she had heard of.

Nevertheless, she had at least some indication of a heading. North, it was, though if she found nothing, she would return here and go westward. She was good enough at navigation to be fairly sure she would find her way along, though this strange change of scenery made her question her navigational skills. “Thank you, Aurora, The Whisperer,” She would not question the "The" in the name nor the plural terminology. If that was the name of their tiny little group - a future pack? - she did not know, nor would she question it and trespass on their comfort.

She would nod, though, thinking of her past. “What I have experienced... It can't be helped. I hope that I can find my way, but I fear there's nothing left.” Fire consumes all, regardless of who controls it. That fire was meant to destroy her home and her people, so she wasn't so certain that anything had survived. If she could find Darken or her children... well. She'd see. “I hope that you two find whatever you seek as well.” If they were seeking a home, would this nestle not suffice?

It seemed peaceful, the way the flowers grew as if they were a carpet across the forest. The butterflies, too, made it seem that this place did not often see war. It could be a home to some one, some day... but not for her. She felt uneasy, though it was in no part because of the two before her or their surroundings.

The oasis of Royal Blue morphos’ provided the perfect picturesque backdrop behind the leaden and white lady; they seemed undeterred by the silent wings just as much as Aurora and The Whisperer. A utopia discovered but unmentioned by the trio, as they reservedly conversed.  But an eager Aurora would soon quench her desire to tour the new domain, wondering just how far did the blooms extend to, where did their path cease?
She’d grown tired of Temperate, the accumulation of forests and streams, their predictable shapes and forms were now memorised and therefore she already knew it was time to move on. She was hopeful though, as the multihued femme before her was not a resident in the unfound location. Though they seemed keen to press on with their own journey.

Auroras’ countenance changed into a mild frown, wearing it as her concern was voiced, ‘Are you sure it is wise to move so quickly? Would you like me to check you before you go?’. She understood their determination to unlock the mystery behind their whereabouts and their pack/family, but if they’d perhaps received an unpleasant bump to their head, then it was wise to rest before their lengthy trek — or so the elegant femme thought.

Nothing left? From where did they come that there was nothing left of their home? Moreover, did they mean in a literal sense or a mentor or emotional one? For the snake-wolf duo, their home was likely still there but there was no way for them to return to it. They would not be welcomed and likely would be killed upon sight. Not that it mattered at this point in time... they felt like they were doing fine with their newfound life.

They would give a sympathetic blink to the other before glancing towards Aurora. Was this the end of their encounter? It appeared not for the pale woman would offer aid to the other. They were the strongest of them but they were also the most talented with their ability to heal. The Whisperer found themselves looking inwards, wondering if they would be able to learn such useful talents. Perhaps Aurora might teach them one day.

The paler of the two appeared to be considering the world around them, this quaint forest, but Nevada could not help but itch to move. To be aimless was never a satisfactory situation for the woman, for from a young age she had been determined to make a name for herself and prove herself as a worthy child of her parents - even if they had never noticed. Too true, she had become but a mirror of her own mother, absent and ambitious... and it pained her.

Her eyes flashed to the champagne woman as she spoke and offered aid and Nevada considered it for a moment.

“Ah, if you would like,” she said, fondly recalling the medicinal skills of her true mate back home... wherever she was. “I do not feel pain, but the memory loss - I assume - is concerning.” Perhaps she had bumped her head. If that was the case, she wasn't certain there would be any visual clues to that actually being the case. She'd landed on her rump here in the flowers, but then again... why had she been falling? There didn't seem anything particularly strange about this forest, though the abundance of flowers was quite different from all that she had known. She didn't believe in magic and her faith in the gods of her youth had withered, and yet...

Allowing Aurora to approach and do as she wished, she would turn her keen eyes towards The Whisperer.

“If I may ask,” she began carefully, “I have never seen a wolf and a snake so entwined.” She wasn't exactly sure how to word her question, so she left it hanging in the air, unspoken.

Obligingly and naturally, Aurora rose from her violet cushion and softly sauntered over to Nevada; you could tell she was only too eager to help by how prompt she was.

Her first task was to root amongst the dense white fur on the females head since they mentioned memory loss. Aurora hadn't seen them actually fall, so was unsure which body part took the brunt of the impact. She sat down close beside her, she would take care, biding her time with the job, cautious to not cause them any further discomfort if she was to find something. Raising just the one paw, she placed it delicately upon the white femmes’ nape, pressing gently (if she allowed this) encouraging them to angle their head slightly lower, to gain better access to the top of their head, ‘Lower your head just slightly please’, she whispered quietly enough for her to hear, not wanting to disturb the conversation now taking place between Nevada and her loyal friend.

If they weren’t opposed to this, using her snout she’d splay tufts of fur, exploring different parts of their scalp. After a thorough inspection, she started to check their neck, and top of the spine, repeating the same method carefully.

Memory loss... this one was not the first to have this problem. She remembered the strange wolf at the water's edge, how confused they had been. It was so strange that they might all have died and appeared here... the wolf shivered as they thought of how there could be things that they were not remembering. Things that could be just out of their reach. Initially they had thought that they'd remembered everything... but did they really.

Their friend stepped forward and they watched first absently, as they thought of the things that raced in their mind. Perhaps it could be something physical but they figured that it might be something mental... something supernatural. They were conversing amongst themselves, not realizing that they were doing it really because it was so nature for Body and Soul to relay their emotions and thoughts, to always stay in sync.

They nearly missed the question thrown their way.

Both pairs of golden eyes blinked and then refocused on the one clad in blue, listening to the question and continuing that very quiet communication between the pair of them before they answered. "We are one. The snake isss The Body... the wolf is The Soul. It is how it isss for those born of our Pack." They were all too aware that their way of life was strange to those unused to it. They were always more than happy to explain, however. "Always together... never alone." They couldn't imagine life without the other.

She allowed the fair lady to pick and prod at her, shifting as instructed without any hesitation. While she had never been one to get into scraps, she'd been injured a few times and had been treated by her Bonds, both by her best friend and by her primary mate, as the two had both taken ranks as leaders of the medicine wolves at various points in their lives in that hell called Death Valley.

Nevertheless, it seemed that time had passed.

The brown wolf-and-snake combo spoke of Bodies and Souls. It was all very new to the woman and she considered it, intrigued. While it was not a belief she felt she could attach herself to, it didn't seem to be dangerous. Unlike wolves who claimed to be gods and made others do their bidding, this felt innocent, almost. Strange, but innocent - for what she knew of it. Who knew what else this Pack she spoke of believed. Perhaps those with larger or more venomous snakes would climb their way to the top and would prance about as leaders over those with lesser snakes.

“From what age were you bonded?” She wasn't sure of it but she didn't feel like snakes would live all that long - did they get swapped out when one snake grew too old to remain with its wolf? “How was the snake picked to pair with the wolf?” She felt odd, speaking to both snake and wolf, but it seemed that that was the case now.

Figuring you meant to swap soul and body!

Auroras' snout carefully massaged the two-toned female, placing her muzzle in different areas to gauge any abnormal lumps or bumps. There hadn’t been any present on their scalp, and so routinely descended to their nape and their spinal area. She was hesitant to go further down to their rump region, figuring if they had fallen on their hind, there was enough tissue to support their fall. Plus she wasn’t attached to the idea of being nipped at had Nevada not wanted her to inspect too low.

She was satisfied there were no serious injuries to the wolf. The graceful femme was diligent enough to ensure their groomed pelt was as it was before she started her rummaging. Flattening any roughened spots with her lips and the tip of her tongue.

I can’t find anything, so I’m sure you will be fine’, she assured them, not that they seemed too concerned about their welfare prior to her investigation. She leant back on her haunches, before slowly making her way back over to her friends' side, keeping quiet as they spoke to one another.

Yes I did :'D Sorry, I did a dumb.

They waited, patiently as the information washed over their newest companion. It was probably a lot to take in but they were not the type to grow offended at questions or annoyed that someone was asking too much. They were more than happy to indulge so they took the next one in stride. "Since before we were old enough to walk." In fact, they didn't remember _not_ knowing each other. It was how things in their pack worked, to be sure that the Souls and Bodies would always understand each other on the deepest level. "Our parentsss are tasked with finding companions for their pups. There were no shortages of animalsss to choose from as our Souls are born from other Souls in The Pack." Those inside of The Pack would offer their offspring to be bonded with wolves. They were raised in the same manner as the wolves, after all, and held the same thought processes and knew that there was nothing better than being a Soul.

"To choose the bonded animal... parents choose which they think will be bessst. They pair them together, you grow together... Body and Sssoul." They hoped that made sense. There were no grand rituals... it was just a part of life that happened, like breathing. Bonded together with the creature that would be with you for the rest of your life, knowing each other for so long that they couldn't remember ever being apart. All of them were encouraged to find their own methods of communication, to anticipate each other's feelings, to do everything together and to help each other. As one being. What was good for the Body was good for the Soul and vice versa.

 It was how life worked.

Aurora continued her examination and Nevada would wait patiently, only offering a glance when she headed a bit south. She might not have snapped at the woman - she didn't feel violence a necessity right now - but she might have given her a side-eye and shifted away had the doctor descended further. While she had landed on her rump, it was only mildly sore, nothing to be wary of in her opinion.

The Whisperer spoke more on her past and Nevada listened intently, speaking of bonds from birth. She wondered if either this wolf before her or the snake that wrapped around her neck had parented any other Bodies or Souls, if she was understanding correctly. “That's very interesting - I've never heard of such practices.” She had no judgement for it, just curiosity. If this wolf and her Pack were like this, where was the other's.

The paler of the two ladies cleaned her up and she found her memories drifting back to the gentle embrace of another gentle herbalist.

She shook her mind out of that when Aurora concluded that she wasn't injured. It was a relief, true, but also held its own worries. A hit on the head, if that's what caused this memory loss, might not be visible if the damage was internal. For now, her mind was mostly clear. Confused, but as she shifted along her thoughts and inspected her own mind, she found that the expected brain fog wasn't nearly as heavy as she might have thought, had she sustained damage to her brain.

It appeared that regaining her lost memories would need to be a task of time and following what leads she could find. “Are you from the same Pack?” She would ask Aurora, turning back to the lady after she had made space. From what she could figure, that wasn't the case - but if it was, she wondered where her Soul was hiding.

It now came as no surprise when her companion voiced her past, the ways of her previous tribe and their sacred rituals including the adoption of other creatures. The small animals were then moulded to each individually, a union and a bond that was adored by The Whisperer. Aurora watched them as they let the stranger know of their uncommon ways.

Nevada seemed to embrace these facts, Aurora noted. As her lavender spheres cast back over to the white-blue femme just as she addressed her. She smiled knowingly in response, shaking her head before speaking.

No, I’m not part of any Pack. I moved away many moons ago from my family to find my own way in this realm. The Whisperer and I seemed to have crossed paths at the right time, and now we move together’, she turned to look at the brown duo beside her fleetingly; winking at them before facing the newcomer again.

Do you remember much of yours?’ She prompted, wondering if their memory had perhaps faded of this as well. Not that Aurora could be of any better service with this information, she knew very little of packs in these territories.

"Asss far as we knew... there were no other Packs like ours. Even where we were from... not many knew of or understood our practicesss..." Those outside of their little area of forest knew almost nothing about them. Although if she hadn't stumbled upon Him, she never would have known that they were the strange ones. When growing up in that world, they had always assumed that far and wide everyone was bonded with their own Soul. Who knew it was so different to others...?

Aurora's examination of their patient concluded and then a new question was posed by their company. The wolf would shake their head, not verbally answering even as their gentle friend spoke in response to Nevada's question. Their golden eyes would turn to Aurora and they would smile bashfully at the wink, looking at the ground briefly before their eyes would return to Aurora and Nevada.

Did they remember? Instead of having the snake speak, the wolf answered by giving a hesitant nod of their head. They remembered all too well... the fury in the eyes of their former family. They shuddered as they remembered being driven out, having their family killed, and lying down when things had gotten too bad...

The wolf's tongue ran nervously around their mouth at the memories while the snake enunciated the concern, "We don't want to run into them again... if they are here..." An admittance to the bad terms that they left their Pack on. If they stayed here then they were certain to not run into them again. The Pack never left their woods and certainly lived nowhere near here.

Nevada's gentle but intense gaze rested on Aurora as she spoke on moving away to make her own way. What caught her attention was two words: This Realm. What did that mean, exactly, she pondered with a blink and a slight, barely perceptible tightening of her face in confusion. Yet, she did not voice her confusion, listening further. She looked at the other woman and winked - and Nevada smiled. It was clear there was some affection between the two, in her eyes. Nevada had had a wife of her own long ago, so to see affection between two who appeared the same sex brought some joy to her heart.

The Whisperer spoke of knowing no other packs that followed the same customs and the ghost pondered how they had come across the customs in the first place. Perhaps there had been a friendship at the birth of the pack, many generations prior, that had evolved into a packwide custom.

Aurora asked about remembering old packs and the slate and white woman noticed the brown wolf give a slight nod, shuddering. She tucked that away mentally, turning to give her own answer to the question she assumed was also aimed at her. “I do remember my home, what I seem to not be able to remember is the time between running from the fire and ...” she glanced to the tree that she had seemed to have fallen from, “...finding myself here.”

The voice of the snake rang out and spoke of not wishing to run into their pack again. She gave an understanding nod to this - she considered the same feelings towards her own birth pack. Nevada took a moment to consider what information to give, then decided that the two women seemed kind enough to not turn on her if they learned of her home. “My home is called Oukoku-kai.” She swallowed.

“Though most other packs knew us as Death Valley.”
