Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She moved through the lands alone, her son sleeping in the den they'd found together. She hadn't strayed terribly far from the den, still within the distance to hear if something went wrong, if someone bothered him while he was asleep. He was a large boy, so she doubted that anything would really mess with him, but Jesuite was a protective mother all the same.

In the solitude of the night, under the indigo skies dotted with the sparkle of stars, Jesuite let loose a gentle sigh. It was in these times that she let her feelings of longing and sadness wash over her; tail down, ears drooping, posture small and insignificant in a way. While her son filled a monumental hole in her heart, it was not quite the same, not quite sealed, not quite...

He was not a replacement, and she didn't view him as such. It would have been unfair to him, and to the lost memories and faces of her family before.

Gently, the silver woman moved down to the next step of the terraces she found herself on, leaning her head down to sniff at what looked like a flower but did not smell like a flower. A passing wonder of what it was flickered through her before she moved on to further explore this curious, unique place.

She hadn't traveled this far in awhile. Last time she took these long trips was when she was doing her father's dirty work. She had to get her shit together. She couldn't keep thinking about her father. He shouldn't be able to find her. And maybe that thought alone kept her moving.. so she could escape. She knew damn well what happens to those who survived the fall. Shivers ran down her spine and caused her to halt. Règne shook her fur to get rid of this nasty feeling of suffocation. Bright eyes gazed up at the stars and she stared for awhile.

When she snapped out of it she finally began to function and register where she was. The ground was covered in green flowers that went down and formed steps. That's the first time was seeing something like this. She bet it would be breathtaking when the sun goes up and the warm colours spilled over every little leaf. A soft chuckle left her dark lips, her arrival here and the hit to her head were probably the reason for this. She barely if ever stopped to admire the nature around her. She shook her head softly and began slowly going down the steps, looking around and paying attention to her surroundings. Her bruises were beginning to heal and weren't such a bother as they were the first couple of days so she planned to make the most of her painless evening.

Nature was something that Jesuite had always felt a connection to, in some way or another. Perhaps not the land or the sea but the stars above them. Did that still count as nature? If it didn't, Jesuite sure that it mattered at all. With the clear sky above her, the moon basking her in its silver light, the woman was in her happy place. The feeling could only be described as her soul leaving her body and humming with the heavens above as that moonlight recharged her. (TM Noki)

With a deep breath, the once-and-again-mother took a graceful step down onto the next terrace, a gentle smile upon her face as she continued her jaunt of exploration.

Her steps were slow and careful, her warm coloured eyes were running across her surroundings as she made her way around. Her ears were pointed and her large body was hard to miss. She looked like a moving mountain in the shadows, though mountains didn’t have eyes that looked like they’ve seen so much death and destruction.. maybe because they had seen it.

she moved to the edge of one of the larger steps and sat down over the soft greens. Her head lifted up and she gazed at the sky. This place was so different, yet the sky looked just the same - for better or for worse. She exhaled and lowered her head again to look at the abundance of leaves. A paw lifted from the ground and she used the gentlest touch over the greens, feeling how soft they were. “What’s gotten into me?” She scolded herself and shook her head with a soft rumble. Was it the fact that she survived? Maybe that’s why she began to appreciate life? Pathetic. Weak.

I’m such a fool.
